Application Information & Instruction
We are excited about your interest in becoming a member of the UNLV Orientation Leader team 2008! Orientation is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic candidates who exemplify the UNLV student. Orientation Leaders play an important role in creating a positive experience for new students as well as ensuring the success of the entire Orientation program. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain leadership skills, while helping new students adjust to the UNLV campus.
Orientation Leaders will serve as peer educators, peer advisors, group facilitators, performers, resource persons, role models, and ambassadors for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. There are several stages to the selection process.
The Application: First you want make sure to review the Orientation Leader job description thoroughly. You can either Apply HERE on-line OR you can print out the PDF form from the links below titled "OL Job Description" and "OL Paper Application".
Recommendation: Have two "recommendation forms" completed; one which must be from a UNLV faculty or staff member. PDF forms can be printed below titled "OL Recommendation Forms"
Individual Interview: Upon completion of either your on-line or paper application, you will return to the University Programs office located in the Student Services Complex room 143 and sign up for a 45 minute interview. Please bring your schedule with you to assist in this process. Approximately 20 students will be selected to be Orientation Leaders.
Important Dates:
Applications are due - Friday, November 30, 2008
Interviews - Monday, December 3, 2008 through Friday, December 7, 2008
Reference forms due - Friday, December 7, 2008
To be eligible, each candidate must:
- Undergraduate student who has or is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at UNLV.
- 2.5 UNLV grade point average at the time of application to be maintained throughout the position.
- Students who apply before completing 12 hours may be hired on a conditional basis until final grades are posted.
- No student may hold the position while on disciplinary warning, probation, and/or suspension.
- Orientation leaders may not take courses during summer session 3.
- Uphold the all aspects of the UNLV Student Conduct Code.
- Possess the following role model qualities: maturity, responsibility, initiative, motivation, flexibility, enthusiasm, integrity, and a good work ethic.
- Exhibit leadership potential, good interpersonal communication, and group presentation skills.
- Be eager to improve leadership and teamwork skills.
- Be able to work effectively with a diverse group of Orientation team members and to promote the benefits of diversity.
Special conditions of the position: ability to work long hours that begin early in the morning and that end late at night, ability to conduct tours or remain outside in the heat for significant periods of time, and be responsible for transporting materials to Orientation sites for every session.
If you are selected, you will be responsible for attending:
- Spring Training during 2008 - Tuesdays, 4 - 6 p.m. in the Student Union.
- Spring Retreat - Saturday, February 23, 2008.
- Fall Training - August 13-20, 2008.
- Fall Orientation and Rebel Connection - August 21 - 28, 2008.
- Spring Orientation and Rebel Connection - January 2009.
Orientation Leaders also help with Rebel Connection activities, extended Orientation activities, and some recruiting events during the fall semester. Orientation Leaders will be paid for spring training, summer, fall, and spring Orientation sessions.

New student orientation for the Spring 2008 semester will be held on January 17, 2008.
The best place to park for Orientation is in the Thomas and Mack parking lot. This parking lot is close to the location for most of the Orientation activities. |
