Orientation is designed to assist students making the transition to UNLV and has something to offer to incoming students whether this is your first college experience directly from high school, you are transferring from another institution, or you are coming to school later in your life. During Orientation, you will have the following opportunities:

  • Learn about your major and academic expectations

  • Learn about resources designed to aid your academic pursuits
  • Meet with faculty and staff
  • Meet other students and make some new friends
  • Find out how to get involved

When is Orientation?
Orientation is August 21-22, 2008.

How long is Orientation?
Orientation is a day long. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m..

What if I can't make Orientation?
For your own benefit, we strongly encourage attendance at Orientation. However, we understand that for some, special circumstances make this difficult. If you are unable to attend Orientation, you can come to our office during the first week of school to get handouts, your student handbook/planner, and other items that were distributed.

What do we do at Orientation?
We recommend students take a campus tour, even if you have been on one before. Now that you know your class schedule, it is easier to identify which buildings you will actually be in. We offer various special programs for first-year students coming from high school, transfer students from other institutions, and nontraditional students coming back to school after several years. You can also use Orientation as a time to take care of needed items such as purchasing your textbooks and parking permit, and setting up your computer lab account.

How much does Orientation cost?
An Orientation fee will be placed on your university bill for your first semester. This is a one-time $120.00 non-refundable fee. As part of the fee, you receive your academic advising, undergraduate catalog, student handbook/planner, and other supplies and special programs for new students.

If I do not attend Orientation, do I still pay?
Yes! All students pay the Orientation fee their first semester at UNLV.

Can I attend Orientation if I haven't been accepted to UNLV?
If you are a special non-admitted student, you can attend Orientation. Once you change your status from non-admitted to an admitted student, you will be charged an Orientation Fee even if you already attended.

Is there an Orientation for parents?
Parents are invited to attend Orientation with their students. There are special sessions offered just for parents.

Should I still attend Orientation if I've already talked with my academic advisor?
Yes!  Your advisor addresses the issues to get you registered for classes and Orientation is the next step.

How and when do I register for classes?
Students cannot register until they are admitted and the registration lines open for that particular term. Once you are admitted, you should contact your academic advisor and get information on how to register and what classes you should take and turn in your Immunization records to the Admissions Office. After that, you can register over Internet when you want.

Will I get the courses I want?
The earlier you talk with your advisor and get registered the better chance you have of getting the classes you want at the times you want. We highly recommend students take care of this as soon as they can and not to wait until Orientation.

When do classes start?
Classes for the Fall 2008 semester will begin August 25, 2008.

I declared my major already but I want to change it. How do I do that?
You can contact the academic advisor for your declared major or the Registrar's Office to change your major.

Where can I find resources for students with disabilities?
Disability Resource Center assists students with documented disabilities with a variety of academic accommodations. They work with hundreds of students and faculty members each semester. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-0866.

When do I get my RebelCard (student ID)?

The RebelCard Services Office is located in the Student Union.
